INSIDE ILMA
Funding the Future
With critical shortages in the labor market, the ILMA Foundation’s
signature Scholarship Program is more important than ever to help
prime the pipeline of talented workers. Over the past 19 years, ILMA
has awarded more than $550,000 in scholarships to 195 students. Of
these, 125 have graduated from college, and 27 continue to receive
funding and work toward their degrees.
Undergraduate awards were recently increased from $3,000 to
$3,500 per year for current and new winners. Eight new scholarships
were awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year, including the Elmer
B. Cleves Award and the Taglia Award. The Elmer B. Cleves Award
is given to undergraduate scholar-athletes studying science or
entrepreneurship. The Taglia Award goes to undergraduates, with a
preference for chemistry majors in Minnesota or Ohio.
Defining ILMAs’ Economic Impact
The work of the ILMA Foundation isn’t limited to scholarships. In 2018,
the Foundation joined ILMA to commission a groundbreaking study
on the economic impact of independent lubricant manufacturers in
North America. The study found that ILMA members stimulate $14.4
billion in sales activity per year and $7.2 billion in GDP. In addition, we
support 26,300 jobs that pay $2.6 billion in labor income.
This concrete data helps quantify why ILMA members matter in the North
American economy and lends greater credence to our collective voice.
