SLICK FACT
Membership Matters
At ILMA’s Metalworking Fluid Committee meeting, held
during ILMA ReEngage in Orlando, Florida, much of the focus
was on ASTM’s Minimizing Heavy Metal Accumulation in
Metalworking Fluids guidance. That led to an agreement for
ILMA to share information on how to join ASTM, so ILMA
members could be more involved in formulating guidance like
this. The good news is that ASTM makes it easy to join — for
just $75 per year as an individual.
First, visit bit.ly/3dRw6uu and click the Join Now button.
During the sign-up process, you will be asked which technical
committees you would like to join. The two committees that
ILMA members would most likely want to consider joining are
D02, (Petroleum Products, Fuels and Lubricants) and E34
(Occupational Health and Safety).
While there are many subcommittees within D02 that will
interest those in the metalworking community, within E34,
choose E34.50, Health and Safety Standards for Metalworking
Fluids. Once you have joined ASTM, it will take a few days for
the subcommittee’s chair to assign your voting status (each
member has a vote, but in order to maintain balance, each
“producer” company has only one vote, which can be assigned
to only one person). Once part of a subcommittee, members
can join any of the task groups, including the group working
on WK68411, Minimizing Heavy Metal Accumulation in
Metalworking Fluids.
